Federal Policies at Fairmount

  • Title 1 is a federal program designed to “Provide all children significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education, and to close the educational gaps.” Our Title 1 funds are used to help all students in the basic skill areas and to provide additional support for students not meeting standards in target areas. We will provide you with important information about this law and your child’s education throughout the school year.

  • According to FERPA, parents and students have rights to their school records. It is the parent’s right to inspect all dependent’s school records by arrangement with the principal. No school records are released without a parent’s permission.

  • At Fairmount Elementary, our school team believes that a student’s learning is significantly benefited by having an effective partnership between the school and the student’s guardians.

    Effective Partnership means:

    • Having a shared belief and commitment to a student’s education goals.
    • Creating and sharing a plan to accomplish those goals.
    • Working together to develop and implement solutions to challenges that may be encountered.
    • Continuing communication regarding the progress toward accomplishing the goal(s)!

Together We Are Better! At Fairmount we:

    1. Accept Shared Responsibility
    • School responsibility: School staff provides high-quality curricula and instruction within a supportive and effective learning environment.
    • Parent/family responsibility: Parents ensure that their child attends school on time daily and communicates with the school regarding their child’s unique learning needs and progress by participating in decisions that impact the education of their child.
    • Together: School staff and families coordinate various ways for families to get involved, including but not limited to attending school events, volunteering, communicating about family/student needs or homework, as well as discussing various agencies who may provide support when needed.

    1. Establish & Maintain Effective, Efficient Two-Way Communication

Studies show that effective, efficient communication is critical to student success! We are strongly committed to various means and opportunities for communication.

    • Annual Review: Families & Staff review the compact and share input on parent involvement plans and opportunities annually.
    • Family-Teacher Conference: We schedule at least one conference per year.
    • Progress Reports: Families receive regular reports on the progress of their child.
    • Access: Families have reasonable access to school staff before/after school as well as chances to participate in class/school activities.
    • Meaningful Communication: We appreciate two-way communication between students, family members, and school. These strong school-family partnerships are the cornerstone of each child’s success!
