Please Welcome, Shannon Koehnen Fairmount's New Principal!

Shannon Koehnen is the new principal of Fairmount Elementary, bringing over 30 years of experience as an educator and school leader. She has served as a building principal for nearly 20 of those years, including eight years leading Discovery Elementary in the Mukilteo School District, eight years as principal of Garfield Elementary, a successful turnaround school, in Everett Public Schools, and three years as principal of North City Elementary in the Shoreline School District. She also served as an assistant principal in two different middle schools.

Across her career, Shannon has led diverse, Title I school communities with a strong focus on multilingual learner support, inclusive special education practices, and Science of Reading implementation. She holds advanced credentials from Pacific Lutheran University, Lesley College, the University of Washington, and the Harvard Graduate School of Education Principals Academy. Shannon is a collaborative, student-centered leader committed to building equitable, welcoming school communities, and is excited to bring that commitment to the Fairmount family. Welcome Shannon!

Important Reminder

Please note that our arrival and dismissal language has been updated to align with School District-wide policies.

ARRIVAL
We tell students that it is COOL to be ON TIME for SCHOOL. On time means they are in their classroom by 9:00 AM.  When students arrive at 9:00 AM the bell has rung, and they are considered tardy/late. Please help your student be on time and ready to learn each day.

DISMISSAL
All dismissal changes must go through the office. To make sure we have time to communicate the dismissal changes we ask families to call the office at least one hour prior to dismissal - this means no later than 2:25 PM Monday - Thursday and 1:10 PM on Friday.

Early pickup, including appointments:
If your child has an appointment or needs to be picked up early from school, please remember to bring your photo ID with you to our office. This is an extra measure to ensure safety at school. We still adhere to the above policy of calling no later than 2:25 PM Monday - Thursday and 1:10 PM on Friday.

Going home a different way:
If your child’s transportation plans will be different for the day, please call our school office at least one hour prior to dismissal. This means no later than 2:25 PM Monday - Thursday and 1:10 PM on Friday. The end of the day is very busy, and this allows us to make sure that we have time to connect with teachers and students, so they are aware of changes.

Your cooperation keeps arrival and dismissal safe, smooth, and efficient for all of our elementary students. Thank you for your partnership!
