Your Voice Matters: Serve on a School District Committee

Mukilteo School District invites you to help shape important decisions about curriculum, budget, and student services by serving on a district standing committee. Interested in learning more or volunteering? Join us for a Zoom meeting on Monday, November 17 at 4:00 PM.

Committee members are elected by attendees at the meeting and may serve on one committee per year. We would love to have you involved!

During this year’s meeting, the school district will be looking to fill these positions on standing committees:

  • BUDGET COMMITTEE: The committee reviews and provides input to the superintendent regarding board and districtwide initiatives and preliminary budget recommendations. The committee meets twice a month from late January through early May. There is one parent opening (two-year term).
  • RESEARCH AND ASSESSMENT: The committee reviews proposals for research conducted in the district for approval and makes recommendations regarding the school district’s assessment program. The committee meets when research proposals are submitted and need to be reviewed. This is generally twice per year. There is one parent opening on the committee this year (two-year term).
  • STUDENT RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The committee reviews and recommends revisions to the Exceptional Misconduct portion of the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook. It meets once a year, usually in May. There are two openings this year (two-year terms).
  • INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS COMMITTEE: The committee reviews and decides upon curriculum materials recommendations by district and school teams, ensuring all instructional resources align with district standards, state regulations, and reflect community values. The Instructional Materials Committee makes recommendations to the school board for adoption. The committee has meetings in the afternoon, two or three times a year, and committee members serve three-year terms. There are three parent/family positions open this year.
  • SPECIAL PROGRAMS: The committee's purpose is to foster communication and learn about the district’s multilingual education, intervention, highly capable, and special education programs, as well as provide input on annual applications and program evaluation efforts. The committee meets twice a year, usually in the late afternoon or evening. There are two parent/family member openings (two-year terms) for parents who have students receiving one of the following services: Title 1, Highly Capable Program.

Bee Kind! Bee-Long! Bee You!

Fairmount has an overarching theme celebrating students that go above and beyond the normal expectations. These shout outs are read over the morning announcements, parents are notified, and students join Principal Klatt for lunch. Here are the students that participated in November.

Conferences are Coming!

Family-Teacher Conferences will be held Monday, November 24 through November 26.

This is a great time to establish relationships with your student's teacher and discuss progress. Talk with your student about academic concerns, look over assignments, and write down topics to prepare for the meeting. Once the conference is over, share the conversation with your student and make plans for a successful year
