Behavior Expectations

Please review our Student Behavior Expectations as we work together to support your child.

At Fairmount, we utilize the PBIS, Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports, approach focusing on positive supports, data driven decisions, and tiered responses to student behavior. We clearly teach, model, practice, and coach expectations to students as they learn. When mistakes are made, we re-teach and help students learn from their mistakes. Consequences are meant to teach, not punish. We are also committed to teaching Social Emotional Learning through the RULER approach which teaches students how to Recognize, Understand, Label, Express, and Regulate feelings and emotions.

Our Fairmount Expectations are:
  • Be Safe
  • Be Respectful
  • Be Responsible
Minor Behaviors are behaviors that can be managed within a few minutes and do not cause major disruption to the learning environment. Examples: disrespect, disruption, horseplay, abusive/inappropriate language/profanity. These behaviors are generally handled by the classroom teacher or the environment in which they occurred.

Major Behaviors will be referred to our Student Support Center and/or administrators. Examples of major behaviors are:
  • Repeated Minor behaviors (more than 3 occurrences)
  • Ongoing interference with other’s learning
  • Threats to the safety of others
  • Repeated abusive/inappropriate language/profanity
  • Racial, discriminatory, or sexually explicit language
  • Major disruption to learning
  • Cheating
  • Damage to school property, including technology
If a student receives a referral for a major behavior, an investigation will be completed, and parent(s) or guardian(s) will be notified of behavior and outcome.

Attendance Awareness

September is officially Attendance Awareness Month. Being on time and coming to school every day allows students to keep up with daily classroom activities, lessons, assignments, tests, and quizzes, and to complete these daily school tasks on time with their peers.

Academic Achievement- Students who attend school regularly are more likely to meet grade level standards on local and state assessments.
Opportunities- Regular attendees have opportunities such as access to counselors, participation in field trips, clubs, activities and more.

Feel a sense of belonging- Students who participate regularly in school feel a sense of belonging and that they are a member of something bigger than themselves. They learn teamwork, communication skills and valuable social skills.
What to do if your child is going to be absent:

  • Call the school attendance hotline: 425-366-2900.
  • Leave a message with your student’s name, reason for the absence, date of absence, and parent/guardian first and last name.
  • Call or send a note with your student within 24 hours of absence for the absence to be excused.

Afternoon Pick-ups and Transportation Changes

  • We understand emergencies happen and will support your family as needed. Lately, there has been an up-tick of afternoon pick-ups. Calls made to the classroom interrupt teaching and student learning. Please consider making your appointments before or after school.

  • Transportation changes MUST be received by the Office prior to 2:45 pm to be sure your student's teacher has correct information. If we do not hear from you, your student will go home the as the computer notes dictate.
