Choir

Choir is a free after school activity open to Grade 4 and 5 students. It is a fun addition to our students’ experience in their General Music class and prepares students for Junior High Choir, should they choose to participate.

Choir meets after school on Monday & Wednesday from 3:30PM-4:00PM, starting October 6. Students will need to attend consistently and be picked up on time to remain in the group - only three unexcused absences are allowed!

Further, students must be picked up by a family member at the end of rehearsal. Only ONE late pick-up is allowed.

Performances:
In addition to a few performances at Fairmount, the Choir may have several off-campus singing opportunities.

Grade 4 and 5 students interested in Choir are required to register and provide transportation information.

Afternoon Pick-ups and Transportation Changes

  • We understand emergencies happen and will support your family as needed. Lately, there has been an up-tick of afternoon pick-ups. Calls made to the classroom interrupt teaching and student learning. Please consider making your appointments before or after school.

  • Transportation changes MUST be received by the Office prior to 2:45 pm to be sure your student's teacher has correct information. If we do not hear from you, your student will go home the as the computer notes dictate.

Local Author Visit

Local author, Kate B. Jackson will be visiting Fairmount-October 21, to talk about her series, Sasquatch Hunters, with grade 3-5 students. She will cover topics like, the qualities of a good friend and teammate, respect for the environment, storytelling, her personal journey as an author, and cryptids, (an animal that has been claimed to exist but never proven to exist, such as Sasquatch). Students will have an opportunity to preorder a book for the author to sign during the event.

Attendance Awareness

September is officially Attendance Awareness Month. Being on time and coming to school every day allows students to keep up with daily classroom activities, lessons, assignments, tests, and quizzes, and to complete these daily school tasks on time with their peers.

Academic Achievement- Students who attend school regularly are more likely to meet grade level standards on local and state assessments.
Opportunities- Regular attendees have opportunities such as access to counselors, participation in field trips, clubs, activities and more.

Feel a sense of belonging- Students who participate regularly in school feel a sense of belonging and that they are a member of something bigger than themselves. They learn teamwork, communication skills and valuable social skills.
What to do if your child is going to be absent:

  • Call the school attendance hotline: 425-366-2900.
  • Leave a message with your student’s name, reason for the absence, date of absence, and parent/guardian first and last name.
  • Call or send a note with your student within 24 hours of absence for the absence to be excused.

Orange Shirt Day

Orange Shirt Day

International Orange Shirt Day is Tuesday, September. 30. The district Indigenous Family Committee in partnership with the Tulalip Tribes invites everyone in the district to honor this important day.

Originating with the Esketmc First Nations People, a sovereign nation located in British Columbia, Orange Shirt Day is a way to honor ongoing efforts to heal from their residential boarding school experiences and work with the Canadian government on acts of reconciliation.

While this day of remembrance and action began with the First Nations peoples in Canada, many Indigenous Nations in the US use this day to elevate their own healing and efforts to hold the US government responsible for the ongoing impacts of the boarding schools they ran and/or supported.

We are encouraged to stand in solidarity with the Indigenous Family Committee and the Tulalip Tribes Education Division, by taking time to honor local and international survivors of boarding schools. These instructional resources include multiple ways to share the importance of Orange Shirt Day day with students.

Show your support and where an orange shirt next Wednesday! Here are some recommended artists: Edzerza Gallery and Marysa Joy’s Creations.
