Read Across America- Week of March 2nd -6th
A colorful graphic promoting 'Read Across America Week' with daily dress-up themes.

The celebration of reading began in 1998 as “an annual reading motivation and awareness program for every child in every community to celebrate reading with the theme: Celebrating a Nation of Diverse Readers.” The National Education Association chose March 2nd, the birthday of children's author Dr. Seuss, as the focal point of the month-long initiative.

Fairmount Elementary’s student leaders created a poster to motivate Fairmount Flyers to celebrate reading. We’re excited to see the creative ways your child/ren celebrates reading during Read Across America Week.

Here is some fun spirit days planned for that week (participation is optional):

  • Monday: Wear a Hat
  • Tuesday: Read My Shirt! (Wear clothes with words)
  • Wednesday: Wear Sports or Athletic Clothing
  • Thursday: Wear Bright Colors
  • Friday: Wear Pajamas or Comfy Clothing
