Congratulations, Mrs. Olsen!

Join us in saying farewell to Mrs. Olsen as we celebrate her Retirement.

Mrs. Olsen has worked at Fairmount for the last 30 years, starting with the Nutrition Services Department. She then moved into an Office Assistant role, and currently, the Administrative Assistant role. Mrs. Olsen is an integral part in how Fairmount functions. Though she is often behind the scenes, she has a heart of gold for our Fairmount Family - which includes you, our families.

Adventure awaits! Enjoy every moment.

TikTok Challenge Awareness

There is a new TikTok challenge currently circulating that encourages students to insert objects into USB ports, (such as those on PCs or tablets), in an attempt to start a fire. This behavior poses serious safety risk, and can cause significant damage to property. Please talk with your student about the dangers of participating in such online challenges.

It is also important to note that intentional damage to school district devices is subject to fines for the repair or replacement of the device as well as disciplinary action per the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook.

Thank you for your partnership in keeping our students safe and our learning environment secure.

Cell Phone Policy

Recently we are receiving an increase of calls from parents that their child has called them from school using a personal device such as a phone or smart watch. Please review our Personal Electronic Device Contract below. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Klatt, principal, or Mrs. Williams, Dean of Students. A copy of the policy can be found on our webpage; https://fa.mukilteoschools.org/86356_2

Fairmount Elementary prohibits students from carrying items such as cell phones, smart watches, and all other personal electronic devices at school. For most elementary students, cell phones, smart watches, and personal electronic devices are more of a toy than a necessity and prove to be a distraction at school. In addition, there is the risk of theft or damage to the item.

We understand that every family situation is unique, and some parents/guardians choose to purchase cell phones, smart watches, and/or other electronic devices for their children. For safety reasons, if you believe it is necessary for your child to bring a cell phone, smart watch, or other personal electronic device to school, please read the following expectations and return a signed copy to the school office to indicate you and your child’s understanding of the Personal Electronic Device Policy at Fairmount.

·        Parents/guardians need to call the school office if they need to get a message to their child during the school day. Personal electronic devices should not be used.
·        If students need to use a phone, they should get a pass from a staff member and use the courtesy telephone in the office.
·        Cell phones and other personal electronic devices must be silenced and in the child’s backpack, when on school grounds.
·        Smart watches must be set on airplane mode while at school.
·        Cell phones, smart watches, and other personal electronic devices may be subject to search, and disciplinary action may be imposed, for inappropriate use of telecommunications devices, per Mukilteo Board Policy 3245.
·        The family is responsible if the phone, smart watch, or personal electronic device is lost, damaged, or stolen.

If a student violates this policy, the device will be held in the office until a parent/guardian can come to school to pick up the device and review the school Personal Electronic Device Contract with the child. If there is a second infraction the device will be confiscated, and the student will need to keep the device at home.

Thank you,
Bente Klatt, Principal

Dress Code

With the weather getting warmer, please review Fairmount's Dress Code.

This time of year I get a lot of questions regarding our dress code. Please review the following that is in our Fairmount OneNote>Staff Information>FA Staff Handbook – in the Discipline & Expectations column as well as in our behavior plan.
Fairmount Dress Code.docx classroom teachers please include in your next family newsletter.

Please note there is requirement for width of straps on tops, they just must have straps.   This is the most common question I answer this time of year, and if we have a warm September.

Fairmount Dress Code

Student Dress Code
  • Fairmount Elementary respects students’ rights to express themselves in the way they dress. All students who attend Fairmount Elementary are also expected to respect the school community by dressing appropriately for a K-5 educational environment. Student attire should facilitate participation in learning as well as the health and safety of students and the adults that supervise them. This policy is intended to provide guidance for students, staff, and parents.

Minimum Requirements:
Clothing must cover areas from one armpit across to the other armpit, down to approximately 3 to 4 inches in length on the upper thighs (see images below). Tops must have shoulder straps. Rips or tears in clothing should be less than 3 to 4 inches in length. Undergarments should not be exposed.
Shoes must be always worn and should be safe for the school environment.
See-through or mesh garments must be worn with appropriate coverage underneath that meet the minimum requirements of the dress code.

Additional Requirements:
  1. Clothing may not depict, imply, advertise, or advocate illegal, violent, or lewd conduct, weapons, or the use of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, or other controlled substances.
  2. Clothing may not display or imply vulgar, discriminatory, or obscene language or images.
  3. Clothing may not state, imply, or depict hate speech/imagery targeting groups based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious affiliation, or any other protected classification.
  4. Sunglasses may not be worn inside the building.
  5. Clothing and accessories that endanger student or staff safety may not be worn.
  6. Apparel, jewelry, accessories, tattoos, or manner of grooming that, by virtue of its color, arrangement, trademark or any other attribute, denotes membership in a gang that advocates illegal or disruptive behavior is prohibited.
  7. Hats and Hoods are at the discretion of the teacher.
The administration at each school reserves the right to determine what constitutes appropriate dress. Students who do not adhere to these guidelines may not be allowed to attend class. Parents/Guardians will be called if appropriate clothing is not available or the student refuses dress-code appropriate clothing.

Are you moving?

Classroom placement is thoughtfully considered in order to create balanced  classrooms. If your family anticipates moving from Fairmount’s service area or if you have already moved and your student(s) will be attending a different school next year, please contact the school office. This information will help us to correctly determine our class sizes for next year.
